In Social Studies classes at NAIS, students engage in inquiry-driven exploration aligned with the North Carolina Social Studies Standards, covering history, geography, civics, and economics. They'll examine communities, state and national history, world cultures, and global connections through primary sources, timelines, and map-based activities, practicing skills like sourcing evidence, contextualizing events, and constructing arguments. Guided by dedicated teachers, learners participate in discussions, projects, and simulations to develop historical thinking and an understanding of diverse perspectives in an interactive classroom environment.
Students also integrate geographic tools and economic concepts, analyzing maps, landforms, resources, and human-environment interactions while exploring topics such as government structures, citizenship responsibilities, and cultural diversity—including South African contexts. Through research projects, group presentations, and real-world applications, they'll build civic competence, cultural awareness, and critical analysis skills essential for informed global citizenship in a standards-based American curriculum.
